Northwest Missouri has been one of the most underrated whitetail deer hunting destinations in the Midwest…but not for much longer.
Today is “the good old days” of deer hunting in this part of the Midwest. Our area is home to the same fair chase whitetail deer population and gene pool that is found in the highly publicized states of Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. The property owned and operated by Any Season Outdoors is located less than 1 hour from all three of these states.
The difference between our area and the nearby area and states is our management.
We strive to harvest only mature bucks and as many does as possible, at least a 2 does for every buck. Our goal is to only harvest bucks that green gross score over 140”. Our area is included in the newly designated antler restriction region. However, we have been managing our whitetail deer population for years by age structure and the overall antler size, not simply by the number of points on one antler.
We have found that there are three very successful management strategies:
1. Habitat management through food plots, timber harvests, edge feathering, mineral licks, and dozens of annual controlled burns to keep fertility and versatility maximized.
2. Limit the number of hunters throughout the archery,
muzzleloader, and rifle seasons.
3. Prevent the harvest of bucks that green score 130" or less.
